Shopify programs / retention
Let a clear reward experience support the relationship
A well-explained digital reward can be part of a Shopify retention program, but delivery alone does not make a customer return. First fulfill the purchase-linked benefit; then evaluate the separate relationship objective.
Finish the current promise first
A customer waiting for reward access needs service information, not a new sales message. The credibility of a retention offer depends in part on whether the existing benefit is understandable and supported. Separate unresolved delivery questions from optional campaigns.
Plan retention as a distinct decision
Set the objective and observation period before interpreting later orders.
| Question | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Which customers are considered? | Avoid comparing unrelated customer groups. |
| What counts as a later purchase? | Keep the result separate from the qualifying order. |
| What period is observed? | Allow consistent comparison. |
| What else changed? | Other promotions and trading conditions can affect the result. |
| Was the reward accessible? | Separate fulfillment problems from the retention question. |
Do not promise a return path the card does not create
A reward card is not automatically store credit and may not require spending at the same Shopify store. Describe the actual card benefit, not a guaranteed repeat-purchase mechanism. Any later marketing should be relevant and permitted.
