Customer engagement / measurement

Build a measurement plan around decisions, not vanity totals

Useful reporting distinguishes who qualified, what was delivered, how recipients engaged, where support was needed, and whether the intended customer outcome changed.

Create a simple metric hierarchy

Begin with the program objective, then select a limited set of customer and operating measures that explain progress. A long dashboard is not a substitute for a clear decision question.

  • Eligible audience
  • Decision completion
  • Notification delivery
  • Recipient access
  • Support rate
  • Outcome measure

Preserve definitions over time

Document how each measure is calculated, which Shopify events contribute, which program states are excluded, and when data becomes final. Changes should create a new version rather than silently rewriting history.

Use findings to improve the journey

Delivery delay, low access, repeated support questions, and changed-order exceptions point to different improvements. Report enough stage detail to assign action without publishing sensitive controls.
